Who am I?
I’m Cicek — an editor and translator living in Copenhagen, Denmark, with a love for all things cultural.
When I first moved to Denmark, I wanted to dive into new and different things — cultural stuff that would help me feel active, present, and maybe have a little fun along the way. Sure, there were the museums (classic choice), but what about crafts workshops, discussions, artsy films, or the smaller festivals where locals and Danes actually hang out — not just the big ones like Roskilde that everyone already knows about? I searched and searched, but it took forever to find anything. Also, most of the stuff I found were expensive af. And the more I searched, the more I realized there’s this whole world of cultural happenings out there that I, as an international, had no idea existed — because I didn’t know where to look or who to ask.
When chatting with fellow internationals, I realized I wasn’t alone — everyone seemed to have the same struggles. Nobody knew what to do, where to go, how to keep up, or even where to start looking for events.
That’s why I created Denmark Happenings. It’s my passion project, where I curate a list of the most exciting events, workshops, discussions and festivals in Denmark each week and share them with you.
I’m not affiliated with any organization; I simply put together a list of events that I think are worth checking out. And it takes a *pretty big chunk of my time each week*, so please keep that in mind if you spot any mistakes (I am human, after all! :)).
You can follow me on Instagram @denmarkhappenings for more event updates and exclusive content.
If you’d like to share an event, your artwork, or passion project or something that makes you happy about life in Denmark —a little story, a photo, or anything you want to share with people— send it my way (denmarkhappenings@gmail.com). You can also reach out to me on the Denmark Happenings FB page. I’d love to include shout-outs at the end of my newsletters to boost your work or amplify your voice, and to help build a sense of community as well.
