Hello lovely people,
Summer is finally here (for like… a few minutes at a time), and I know many of you are already on vacation or about to be. This newsletter will also be taking a little summer break, but before that happens, I’m leaving you with a mega-huge list of things to do this month. So you can come back anytime and check what’s going on. So don’t delete this mail just yet because you’ll probably need it in a few weeks — just sayin’.

As I mentioned at the top, Denmark Happenings is taking about a month off. But Copenhagen isn’t slowing down. So here’s a list of things you can enjoy throughout the coming weeks, organized by category, sort of, and you can come back to this edition anytime to check what’s on.
A Summer Full of Films
Cinemateket will be your best friend if you want to enjoy some independent and artsy films this summer. You can enjoy “American Independent” film series until the end of summer (there’s even a film with intro by my one and only heart-throb Mads Mikkelsen and there are still many tickets available — you’ve heard it here first, people!!!).
There is also an “Italian Summer” series with an amazing selection from the region until September (Perfect chance to watch Call Me by Your Name under the open sky).
And finally “Big City Nights” series with films that bring world’s biggest metropolises to the open air cinema. You can catch any of these films until mid-September.
Summer Experiences with Kids
There’s plenty to do with kids this summer, of course, and I am by no means an expert in what to do with kids in the city, BUT these three things are recurring, so they’ll be there for you whenever you feel like it over the next couple of months.
Naturcenter Amager Strand has open house all summer long, with weekly guided wading trips. Kids can build their own crab fishing rods, borrow nets and binoculars, and spend the day exploring by the beach. They’ll get to search for small animals, crabs, and other cool creatures in the shallow waters. Plus, there are other tours and experiences by the waterfront to check out. You can see all of them here. Also the little water playgrounds in the city are open and will be open throughout the summer. You can see the whole list of where to find them here. Don’t have kids? Well, you can share this newsletter with someone who has :D so they can also take a look at what’s happening in the city 😊
There’s also summer dance in Fælledparken from 23 June to 24 July. 5 weeks of FREE open-air dance parties at the Dance Square in Fælledparken, on the corner of Edel Sauntes Allé and Øster Allé. Monday to Thursday 7-10pm there are professional dance lessons for beginners in all sorts of styles such as; Swing, Salsa, Dancehall, Argentine Tango, Kizomba, Afrobeat and Folk Dance, followed by DJs who play for free dancing in the evening's style. Thursday afternoons from 12-14 there is Summer Dance for children.
Attractions & Museums
As some of you may know there are a few museums that offer free entry on certain days and one of them is Copenhagen Museum. It’s free to visit on Wednesdays, plus there’s a special exhibition called “The Sound of Copenhagen”. It’s also free to visit Thorvaldsen Museum and Nikolaj Kunsthal every Wednesday. Home of Carlsberg also offers many events and activities throughout the summer, and their free pop-up activities are quite interesting. They change daily and planned on the day.
On another note of free things to do, CopenPay is something you can try if you would like to get rewarded by Copenhagen attractions such as a free lunch, a free boat tour, free bike rental, excursions or museum discounts. All you need to do is, for instance, bike instead of drive, help maintain the city, work in an urban garden, etc. There are so many offerings, so click the link to get more info. You can plan whatever you want to do on whichever day suits you.
If you are not in the mood for any activities or cultural trips, you can spend the day away at a swimming/dipping zone and chill at many of Copenhagen’s swimming areas. You can find all the info you need about badezoner here.
Exhibitions to Visit until the End of Summer
If you’re into art exhibitions there are also so many to pop in to but here are three of my favourite exhibitions. They’re all free to visit and open all summer long. Summertime ‘25 at Galleri Christoffer Egelund with contemporary art from 42 artists from all over the world. Pottery 101 — a group exhibition that celebrates contemporary visions in clay. And exhibitions at Officinet.
Looking for more events?
I share extra events throughout the week on the Denmark Happenings Instagram — little gems that don’t make it into the newsletter. I’d appreciate it if you give it a follow!
That’s it from this week! I’ll be here after a few weeks.
Hope you have a lovely summer!
