Hello lovely people,
This week, most other events seem to have cleared the way for the holy Distortion (4-8 June) happening all over Copenhagen. The streets will be full of drunk people pissing everywhere, and since I live right in the middle of one of those main streets, I’m especially looking forward to the lingering scent of piss for weeks to come *yayy*. I’m hoping for torrential rain, summer be damned.
All the street parties are free, and it’s already too late to buy tickets for most Distortion X events (the concerts and such) — last I checked, many were sold out. There’s still a chance to buy a food ticket for the long table event on Nørrebrogade (all tickets can be found at the Distortion link above), or, if you’re feeling fancier, there’s a backyard party at the French embassy. The ticket includes a two-course menu and a glass of wine (though I’m pretty sure no actual French person would call a sandwich a “course”).
Alright, that’s enough Distortion talk. Let’s look at what else is happening in the city this week:
FEST — SV-Festival
The SV festival takes place for a week every year in June in Sydhavn at local venues, cafes, schools, squares, streets, quaysides and other urban spaces. The focus is on new music and dynamic local culture in an all-age diverse music program. See the line-ups at the red link above.

FILM — Interspecies Politics: Philosophizing with Dogs
Animal Antics '(Patrick Goddard) with introduction by Madeleine Kate McGowan and Mikkel Møller Roesdahl. A talking dog narrates Patrick Goddards darkly humorous film about the borders of human and animal. Madelaine Kate will introduce the film, focussing on the political possibility of cross-species encounters.
📆 2 June, 18.00-20.00 / 💸 100 DKK / 📍 Kbh V.
WORKSHOP — Listening to Stone
This workshop will explore listening to stone as an ecotheoretical imperative and experimental practice. Lukas Quist Lund will open the event with a listening calibration, a practice developed by the Bureau for Listening. In “Steps to a Geology of Mind,” Paul Harris will propose a petrification of thought, language, and the body; given that vitality is mineralogical, rather than raising rocks to the realm of the living, we should be lithifying life. In “Songs Beyond the Human,” Stefanie Heine will discuss how literature stages rocks and stones as witnesses through which radically non-human modes of archiving and Anthropocene haunting become audible.
📆 2 June, 14.00-16.00 / 💸 Free / 📍 Kbh S.

TALK — Post-Future Essayism
Through involvement in marine biologists’ studying copepods in western Kalaallit Nunaat at a time when Danish colonial history and colonial relations have become part of public debates, this talk seeks to tie science-driven questions to heuristic and critical models of practice. That is, practices that are not usually associated with collaborative projects between art and science, and that ultimately seek to challenge the ideologies of knowledge production of Western science.
