Hej and welcome to this week’s culture rundown!
Big welcome to all the new subscribers! So glad you’re here! This week’s edition is packed. We’ve got contemporary art, Afro-Cuban jazz, a stroller march that raises money for mothers in Kenya, and techno yoga.
If you want to lie on the floor of a museum absorbing soundscapes, or to chat with a human book, or just hunt down some good secondhand stuff, there’s something here for you. (And if you’re just reading this from bed with no intention of going anywhere this week, that’s also a completely valid lifestyle.)

PERFORMANCE — “The Village”
The theatre group fix+foxy examines “The Global Village” and its mental geography together with a cast from Denmark, the US, India, Nigeria and Turkey. This English show explores themes like globalization, loneliness, and whether a true sense of human connection can exist across borders once our screens are turned off. What does it mean to live in a world, where everything seems within reach, but at the same time impossible to get? Get yourself a ticket and you may find out…

EXHIBITION — Time/Soil/Star
Eight contemporary artists explore the climate crisis through everything from objects found in areas of Copenhagen, subterranean creatures and floral metaphors to a café in outer space, invasions from distant galaxies. Perfect opportunity to visit Rundetaarn if you haven’t already! Check the program for special events, there are a few “Drinks in the Round Tower” events coming up.

EXPERIENCE — Borrow a Human Book
Human Library’s Reading Garden in Union has opened it’s doors again this year. Every Sunday, you can let your prejudices be challenged by one of the many volunteer open books for free. Chose a human book and sit down in the garden to have an open conversation where all questions about the subject are welcome.

WORKSHOP — Circular Creative Community
Join Fashion Revolution's workshops every Monday and Wednesday to upcycle clothes and textiles and become part of the movement for sustainable fashion. In our workshops, you'll learn techniques like sewing, embroidery, visible mending, patchwork, and more.

EXHIBITION — Rise of the Sunken Sun by Inuuteq Storch
This exhibition weaves personal narratives together with a broader exploration of identity, history, and daily life in Kalaallit Nunaat (the land of the Kalaallit or the Greenlanders). Through both his own works and archival photographs, Storch creates a nuanced portrayal of life in his homeland Kalaallit Nunaat, while also revealing the subtle traces of the country's colonial history.

EXHIBITION — Cast & Outcast by Johannes Nagel
Ceramic artist Nagel is known for a wild and diverse body of work based on his use of experimental and groundbreaking porcelain casting techniques. In an improvisational and spontaneous artistic approach, he digs cavities in sand and fills them up with liquid porcelain or performs rough cuts into plaster blocks and casts the rugged resulting form.

FOR A CAUSE — Walk for the World’s Mothers
Every year, 260,000 women die related to pregnancy and childbirth. 99% of these deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries, and most could have been avoided with better health services. For every set of feet -or wheels- that joins the Stroller March, RFSU donates 100 DKK to improve the conditions for pregnant women in Kenya. This will be a day with family activities and 10 different cities across Denmark will be participating.

CONCERT — Sound of the 20’s
The 2020s and 1920s have several things in common: The world is trying to recover from a pandemic and many things, such as gender roles and class struggle, are being questioned with great excitement. How is this reflected in the music? Can we hear any similarities? The programme is curated by Professor Eva Hess Thaysen, who is also hosting the concert. Entrance is free but seats are limited

EXERCISE — Techno Yoga at Werkstatt

EXPERIENCE — Art Bar Extravaganza 2025
Art Matter marks the opening of this year's contemporary art festival with a big party in Nikolaj Kunsthal. Cassie Augusta Jørgensen, Lotte Sigh, Oladipo, Poulette pop-up and beer from Depanneur. The program that marks the beginning of the festival offers an eclectic mix of performance, dance and music – both outside at Nikolaj Plads and inside Nikolaj Kunsthal's galleries.

FEST — Art Matter Festival 2025
Denmark’s largest festival for contemporary art, with over 150 events including Art Tours, talks, openings and parties. The entire Danish art scene participates, from large venues like SMK and Louisiana to smaller galleries and artist-run exhibition spaces.

CONCERT — Akokán – The Roots of Afro-Cuban Jazz
Machito’s electrifying percussion sets the pulse of the performance, while Eliel Lazo brings his award-winning style and deep Afro-Cuban roots to the stage. Yasser Pino’s groove-driven bass lines provide a rock-solid foundation. Artur Tuźnik combines melodic and harmonic sensibility, blending Polish folk and Scandinavian jazz with Afro-Cuban traditions.

FEST — 48 Timer Festival
A district-wide cultural festival in Nørrebro, which exists to make the city an even better place to live, visit and be in. The festival’s content is created by locals, associations, organizations, artists, business people, residents and other enthusiasts. Program is still not announced though.

EXHIBITION — The Sound of Copenhagen
What does Copenhagen sound like? And how has the city’s soundscape changed over time? Discover this and much more at the Museum of Copenhagen’s special exhibition. This immersive exhibition puts sound and listening in the spotlight, with a special focus on 19th-century Copenhagen. Exhibition opening is free for everyone. Otherwise ticket to the museum (incl. exhibition) costs 110 DKK.

CELEBRATE — Odense Pride 2025
Odense Pride is an annual event organized by the Odense Pride association and celebrates diversity, love and community. The event brings the city together to support LGBTQ+ rights. Pride Day consists of a parade through the city center and a program in Kongens Have with stalls, speeches and entertainment.

EXHIBITION — Enter Afterlife
The special exhibition opens on Saturday at 8 pm at Thorvaldsens Museum, where the artists behind the exhibition, O Future, invite you to a very special sensory experience, where video projections, choirs and music merge with living sculptures that "play" their own instruments. The audience can lie down or stand and be absorbed in a total sensory experience. Afterwards, the exhibition opens in the Marble Gallery, and the museum's courtyard is transformed into an atmospheric oasis with cold drinks and a DJ until 11:00 p.m. Registration not necessary.

THEATER — Snedronningen
This summer, Dyrehaven will be transformed into a landscape of ice and Andersen’s beloved fairy tale will be resurrected as a magnificent family performance. The tickets sell out fast so reserve your seat in advance if you want to experience this performance. It’s in Danish but it’s the Snow Queen, so you know the story line already :) And it’s a great opportunity to enjoy with kids.

FILM — Kult og Kitsch
From 18 April 18 to 28 June, Cinemateket celebrates new and old cult films. Many people associate cult films with old, forgotten films – but the decisive factor for cult status is the reception the film receives through rituals such as quotes, costumes and interaction during screenings. Something that home streaming cannot offer. Under the heading Cult and Kitsch, Cinemateket explores and recreates this narrative.
