Week 16
Global Health Film Days, pub quizzes, talks & debates, coffee & wine tastings, guided tours...
Welcome back, dear reader.
Is this gloomy weather getting to you too? I know it’s not as cold and dreary as the winter, but the Mediterranean in me is in need of some serious sunshine :( But it seems the sakura trees aren't really bothered by the terrible weather, as I’ve heard they're blooming a bit early this year. If you're in the Copenhagen area this weekend, you might want to visit Bispebjerg Cemetery, Langelinie Park, or even the Botanical Gardens to see them.
Alright let’s jump right back to the newsletter. Here’s a round up of all English and (hopefully) fairly affordable events happening in Denmark:

20 April: Family Photos — "Family Photos" documents the artist Maria Heines’ time visiting family in America. Where she circled around family histories with her late grandfather’s old analogue camera, picking up pieces of the past found in the present. Searching for how previous constellations of abuse, neglect, and love materialise into current family dynamics. The exhibition will evolve with revisions from the artist as she works in the gallery on 20 April. Visitors are welcome to join her on these days to learn more about her process and photographs. Free entry
20 April: Persian Art Guided Tour — David Collection (Davids Samling) is a wonderful Islamic arts museum in the heart of Copenhagen, it’s free to visit so if you haven’t been there already, I don’t know what you’re waiting for :) But there’s also an upcoming guided tour in English, so don’t forget to register. Free entry
20-21 April: Sakura Festival 2024 — This year the sakura trees are in bloom early, despite the truly disgusting weather, so I don’t know if there’ll be any flowers left until the festival takes place but it’s a fun event to check out in any case. Free entry
21 April: Wild Food Tour — I shared this before, but I’m sharing it again for those who missed it. This is an English wild food tour where you’ll learn to find and identify wild edible plants in Denmark. 300 DKK

For those looking for a different activity or a museum: Arbejdermuseet (Workers Museum) is a wonderful museum that focuses on Danish labour history (to be fair, last I visited it was a bit lacking in English descriptions but it’s still a great place to visit). And in this temporary exhibition called “Women’s Lives” you will learn about the women workers, discover stories of struggles, daily life, equal rights, and equal pay, explore the right to one’s own body and place in history. Entry ticket: 113/90 DKK (10% off online) but if you are a union member, you might be eligible to enter the museum for free, so check the list!
